This September, The Home Stylist founder Alex Sheldon made her way to France to attend the world’s leading home decor fair. Maison & Objet considers itself as “the international authority for home decor, interior design, architecture and lifestyle culture and trends” and we have to agree!

While Alex feels like she didn’t see anything completely new and innovative, she was incredibly inspired by the styling and designs she did see and noted a lot of amazing trends reappearing in different forms. A few standouts were clear and we think these 8 are going to be huge throughout 2019.

Without further ado, here are The Home Stylist predictions for 2019 interior trends inspired by Maison & Object.

Total Texture

One trend that found it’s way into every corner of interior styling – and indeed sparked a few other specific trends – was texture. All kinds of materials were represented at Maison & Objet, with the only distinction being the more you can feel it then the more you should use it! It also seems that using texture in 2019 home styling is going to be as much about the feel of it as the look. Combining different textures instantly makes a space visually exciting.

V-v-v-velvet!

One texture that stood out above all else? Velvet was all over Maison & Objet, in the form of sofas, chairs, cushions and just about anything else that can be labelled ‘soft furnishings’.

Colour Gems

In terms of colour palette, there was barely a hue missing in the myriad of designs we saw. Our favourite colour trend for 2019, though, has to be gem colours. Think emerald, ruby, sapphire and yellow tourmaline. These hues are warm and rich and look perfect in velvet!

Burnt Orange

Another colour we are very happy to see trending in interiors is burnt orange. This is such a vibrant colour that creates a warm focal point in any room, however you decide to use it.

3D Framing

One cool trend we loved was 3D frames for mirrors, which fits nicely with the texture theme. The bigger and bolder the better!

Wallpaper Wild

We mentioned that many of these trends are recycled and when it came to walls, it seems that the 60s are back with patterned wallpaper making a bigger comeback than ever before. Again, big and bold is the way to go with no fear of clashing colours, textures and patterns.

Plant Mad

Another trend that you can go a little overboard with in 2019? Plants. While we are sure the succulent train is still riding strong, we noticed favouring flowers and foliage for 2019. We’ve always been a fan of faux flowers for that natural look without the work and we also saw nature represented in motifs, art and pattern too. And, if you are going to go for real plants, then apparently you may as well go all out plant mad and cover entire surfaces and walls with them!

Heavy Metal

Copper has been the metal trend of late and we saw a lot of it again at Maison & Objet, although it wasn’t alone. Metals of all kinds were mixed together as the base for furniture or as art in itself. Again, this is the texture thing coming in again with velvet and metal featuring often alongside one another.

What you’ll notice from many of the pictures we took at Maison & Objet is the combination of trends. These are not singular design styles that you have to stick to loyally. Rather, they work beautifully together and the more you combine, the more unique and you your home becomes. So, have fun!
